Knows the area HS coaches well.

Coached at a school 25 minutes down the road. Knows his bases in and around the area. Seems like a natural fit.

However, unlikely to be making the money he is now but given the current situation with LSU's offense sputtering the past two years could he bolt?

I really think they should. For several reasons:

1) he's the biggest name they could possibly expect

2) he's familiar with both NLA and Louisiana in general--should be a very successful recruiter, relatively(best ULM has ever had)

3) Forget this year, he has proven that his offense can do well with inferior athletes

4) Monroe might be the kind of place he would want to retire. Not that it's a great town by any means, but it's fairly small and quiet and in the heart of the Bible belt

5) It would be a dig at Tech to hire their most successful coach of the last 30 years

6) The timing--for both parties--is perfect. It would allow Crowton(and Miles)to save face. ULM is not a great job, but it's still a D-I head coaching job. Better than Northwestern St.

He would pretty much be guaranteed a job there as long as he wanted it(10 years or so). I can't imagine them ever firing him. If they are really willing to double Weatherbe's salary and go up to about $350K, that's a pretty nice comfort knowing you can stay there as long as you want to. He might be able to get an OC job somewhere for a little more, but there will be much more pressure there and less stability.

I have no idea if it's even a real possibility, but I think it makes a lot of sense for both ULM and Crowton.

Is anybody actually talking about this. I've been thinking about it all week, but haven't heard anything.

I don't think the Utah gig is available and BYU sure don't want him back. Is there a Joseph Smith University?

It would be difficult for GC to coach ULM since he will be busy w/ his duties as OC for LSU.

I'm not saying he won't be, but if your only "source" is that lame-arse thread I read on here yesterday, then just go ahead and kill yourself.
