Well if there is an easier way to do something, then why shouldn't you try to do it that way?
The way to make this easy on yourself is to get the very best coach that you can. That coach needs fewer specific hires to align in his favor to get to the same destination, a championship.
The problem is that getting to that point involved some risk to Alleva. Making a more qualified but lesser known outside hire would've been a tougher sell to the fans for Alleva, so he decided to make the hire that was the easy sell. That way, whatever happens he can fall back on "the fans wanted him, the players wanted him." He did this to avoid criticism from the fanbase. Instead of doing his job, he was a coward.

They should move him to a non coaching role. He's a hell of a recruiter.

I agree with the above quote. That does not translate into "fewer specific hires" need to align. O showed lots of promise on offense even though using a TE's coach as the OC. By all accounts, Cam Cameron should have performed way better than Steve Ensminger-- but statistics say otherwise. So-- O did more with less.
