So many schools are not happy with winning records and bowl games and are willing to spend millions on coaches that are not much better than their current coaches. Look at Graham at ASU who finished second in the pac12 south, beat his rival 4 out 6 years and gone. There are 5-10 examples just like this every year. These are State institutions that spend millions on buyouts etc and then increase new salaries and majority of the time there is no payback.
I guess it’s the money involved and investments into the infrastructure etc. but the model does not seem sustainable and you have to wonder if we are at some sort of tipping point. All seems crazy to me.

no guessing too it. Everybody has money now and if you don't win at a high level quickly, you're gone.

It’s absolutely crazy and I don’t think Iran sustainable. I just don’t understand what is driving this nonsense. Something has to change. The politics of college football seem to be undermining the sport

Agree. But it hardly ever works out and all you do is keep changing for the sake of change. Many of these schools are running a deficit in athletics and still spend money they don’t have. Many states are running deficits and somehow approving $10 million buyouts and making the new coach higher paid.
And again the odds are you are no better off. Sumlin is not going to turn into Saban while at ASU, but when you factor in buyout and new salary they will probably be paying Saban money.

The football programs are profitable. State budget is due to other factors

You are correct, in most cases. However it is a bad look all the way around and gives the appearance of “Risky” investment practices and bad management of a state institutions money.
These are football programs but at the end of the day they are run by the state and the presidents of the State Universities.
The incredible costs of facility upgrades along with salaries are going to catch up with mid level programs and TV money will not be able to cover forever.
