LSU would easily be the biggest vacancy in college football. We could get, in large part, whoever we wanted
The Gaytors disagree with this

1.Gary Patterson
1A. Tommy Tuberville
Throw the world at Gary Patterson and make him say no.

A List
1.Gary Patterson
2.Chris Petterson
3.Gus Malzahn- Lock to LSU
4.Dan Mullen
i like Patterson and Mullen, not sure Petterson would leave and not crazy about Malzahn because he doesn't have HC exp and not sure we have the players to run his offense. Would rather Brady Hoke.

Best Five that would realistically come:
1) Pat Fitzgerald - HC at Northwestern
2) Gary Patterson - HC at TCU (more unlikely to come than the others)
3) Dan Mullen - HC at Mississippi State
4) Gus Malzahn - OC at Auburn
5) Jack Del Rio - HC of Jacksonville Jaguars

I honestly think Gary Patterson would be unstoppable at LSU. The thought alone is scary. I would rather take my chances in having to face Miles every year.

LSU's last two head coaches
Had HC experience in 2 pretty fair football conferences and some major wins over such big time progams as Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Penn St. and Florida at a time when Okla. St and Mich. St were both at the "little brother" level within their home state.
I have no desire to be a Tenn. and take WAC coach with a losing record and project that he can handle the job.
Anyway, I don't care what Miles did 10, 9, or 8 years ago or use that to decide what LSU should be willing to take as a HC for 2011.
LSU is a destination school based off 2 recent NC, 4 BCS bowl wins, and Top 10 coaching dollars.
As such and with all due respect to most of the coaches you mentioned in another post...thanks, but no thanks.

I'm pretty sure the only time MSU played them was in Cap 1 which was after Saban left.

I think Gus Malzahn is our guy.
1. Solves the offensive question marks
2. Allows Chavis, Wilson, & Key staff to stay
3. Has the SEC experience
4, Creates the buzz for fans
5. Locks down our recruiting class
Obviously, the HC experience is a question mark but most people would overlook this IMO for his creative play calling.

do you think Gus Malzahn is as successful as he was this year without Cam Newton?
I really don't think so.
let's see how Malzahn does as Auburn OC next year (with no Cam Newton) before we throw him atop that list.

This is his first year with Newton, he's had success before

but never such a success to be topping the lists of elite schools looking for head coaches...

His has been successful everywhere he has been HS, Arkansas, Tulsa, Auburn.
Gus has to be the odds on favorite without Patterson committing first. Another thing is Alabama or someone else tapping him as a HC down the road. Remember the name Steve Spurrier?

you mean he's never been to the BCS CG, that's correct.
His offense at Tulsa led the nation he's had success before Netwon. Now that he has a special player, they are playing for a title, funny how it works that way.
ETA: I'm not crazy about him because he's never been a HC, but the idea that all his offensive success is due to Netwon in patently false.

Hell no. Malzahn would be a head coaching experiment.
Patterson, Gruden (though this seems more myth than possibility) or bust IMO.

Dan Mullen was an experiment at Mississippi State. Now the board is all over him but if he was still at Florida then he has never been a head coach. Will Muschamp is another guy who ends up as head coach at Florida. I don't like recycling guys like Tommy Tuberville just because he coached in the SEC. Some of these coordinators like Chris Peterson have made the transition rather smoothly. Gus can get the offense going but can Patterson? He is a defensive guy?

I'm going Patterson and think he would really listen...
