It wasn't Slocum, he was pretty clean, and tried to clean things up (too bad A&M was on prob. in 1994).

However, I think Jackie may have been complicit in a lot of this. Jackie still maintains close ties with some of these "friends of the program"

and fewer instances of "lack of institutional control."

To label a major school as that, that soon after SMU, A&M most likely would've gotten the Death Penalty and since their sacrificial lamb (not another A&M joke, I promise) was already SMU, it was easier and cleaner to put the penalties one under the major one. And it being a UT grad as the leader would've helped, because they still wanted the rivalry at that point in time, especially for their new conference and with Arkansas leaving.

You linked an opinion piece from the Austin American Statesman as proof he cheated? And even in that article theres no proof?

He definitely had a clue about A&M when he came to coach there.

He didn't grow up near A&M is the point I was getting at.

And RC is originally from Pitkin near Oakdala and moved to Orange at 14

The age must be off. My old coach was also a Louisiana to orange guy and he must have been 14

The towns are right though

Those areas are so close, isn't Orange part of a piece of Texas that sticks in LA? Isn't LA to the North, East, and South of Orange?

Everywhere I've seen says he's a native of Orange, so my guess is he was fairly young when he moved, more likely before he started attending any school.

Orange is around a couple of hours east of Houston if there is no traffic. More like 10 hours with traffic.
