A source close to Saints Coach Sean Payton indicated that Payton was relieved Orgeron was moving on after his interest with college jobs had become an increasing distraction the past several weeks. Apparently, some within the organization felt Orgeron was more focused on his coaching future than his current job, and Payton grew tired of Orgeron juggling phone calls from LSU and Tennessee.
The source also suggested that Payton was not very pleased with the progress of the defensive line under Orgeron rest of the story even before the LSU-Tennessee tug-of-war began, and he is looking forward to the opportunity to bring in a veteran defensive line coach with NFL experience.

Why not just fire him then? It says he was relieved he left, but as the head coach couldn't he have just fired him?

Right, because Sean Payton knows what good coaching looks like.

We already wasted two draft picks on Shockey. We could have used those picks to help draft up for taylor mays.

He could have fired him, but why? He was leaving anyway. For all we know O could have been told his contract would not be renewed. That's why he proactively sought out another position.

And Miami's wasn't pleased with Saban. Who gives a crap? O is a good College coach. His personality is better suited to it.

Ogeron may in fact suck, but Payton is probably too busy drawing up a triple reverse to use on the next third and one to notice.

Payton should get a decent DC in place to better utilize the talent he has on D.
