If Aranda is leaving LSU, then a young guy that has an elite defense in the G5 this year is San Diego State's Zach Arnett. This was only his 2nd season as the DC and his 6th season coaching LBs (so he could fit into Aranda's slot on the staff). From SDSU's website:

"With Arnett on staff, the SDSU defense has ranked among the nation’s best in several categories over the last five seasons, including interceptions (1st, 87), rush defense (6th, 121.1), total defense (6th, 316.4), scoring defense (9th, 19.7), turnovers forced (t-10th, 98), interception returns for touchdowns (t-10th, 11) and pass defense (11th, 195.2)."

This year, they're up to 4th in the country in scoring defense this year (12.8 ppg allowed), 5th in YPG allowed (288), and 9th in yards per play (4.6).

Very good post, though I assume his inexperience might be scary for O

This was my pick in a thread earlier. I love this dude, he makes 200k. He reminds me of Boom in his younger days. Very smart. Very aggressive. Might be too inexperienced but dude is a winner.

Looking up the best defenses from this year and then Googling their coordinators is not how you find good candidates.

SDSU's head coach Rocky Long is a veteran defensive guy. He calls the plays

Nice try, but let's leave this coaching search to our staff.

I agree with this somewhat but he’s been in that system going on 6 years now. I think Long gives him some space to do his thing.

It would be a risk no doubt. He looks like a prototypical DC

I mean, obviously I'm not part of the search committee. Its a discussion board. I'm bringing him up because he seemed pretty interesting as someone that might get his tires kicked with there being plenty of DC openings around the country.

I’ve never heard of him but I will look him up. What kind of defense does he run?

Arnett may be good but the red flag is that Rocky Long really runs the defense.

Plus, they run a pro style offense built around ball control. That keeps the defensive numbers down a little.
