Why would you pay more than what they are worth? There is a limit on what you should pay.

Agreed. I don't think our negotiating position is all that strong, due to the circumstances you mentioned. Top candidates are simply not lining up to beg for this job. They never have/ never will. All the excitement and delusion to the contrary is entertaining however. At this point I'm guessing we get neither Herman nor Fisher. I think we settle for a Fedora, Gundy type second tier coach. I still firmly believe it will be someone not mentioned here or spoken of much if at all. Get prepared for surprise and disappointment.

They are all over paid. Is Jim Harbaugh worth 9mil when his biggest claim to fame in college is beating Pete Carrol? LSU wants to be a championship caliber team it has to keep up with the Jones that means over paying to get their guy then do it. Look at what Bama has thrown at Saban to make sure he stays and to get him from Miami in the first place. Money should not be the deciding factor here. If it is we will get another mediocre hire and continue being an also ran.

I want Fisher or Herman.
Fisher not coming
Herman not coming
We will not win the bidding war with Houston and Texas for Herman's services nor should we try.
Fisher will get a good raise to stay at Florida State and he will be happy.
I agree last year was a debacle

I think JF/JS were trolling us last year and are trolling us again this year. We heard JF was coming last year, I believe those at LSU thought JF was coming last year, but as he never signed up with LSU who knows the ultimate truth.
Honestly ask yourself if the roles were reversed at FSU/LSU now. Could LSU afford to let Jimbo walk. Where would we get the next verified big time guy? It's simple not an acceptable position to let Jimbo walk. Remember this is big business with millions in profit on the line.

Why not Dan Mullen?

I agree with all of that. You need look no further for precedence than our dealing with Leslie Miles when his name would pop up in the years right after his national title winning season. LSU did what it took to keep him. I believe FSU will too. There are no dream jobs for these guys IMO, it is what the best fit is for them.

Rather than settle for second tier I wish we would just take advantage of what we have and offer the job to Coach Aranda. It doesn't bother me he's not a head coach; the man is young at 40 and has exceptional insight into the game. Let him pick out an offensive coordinator he wants and pay whatever. No one knows the great offensive coordinators like a great defensive coordinator--he knows the one he fears.
