Have to agree with PodKatt, much of the media is looking to boost ratings with “Miles to Michigan” headlines. ESPN credibility? Please child.
So instead of speculation, let’s do something original. Let’s look at the facts:
1. Michigan is a total mess right now. Three years after the Admiral Bill Martin / Rich Rodriguez affair, the UM athletic dept is still hopelessly mired in politics. Who is the AD? Brandon or Lloyd Carr? Are your sure?
2. Due to UM’s Ivy League envy, they are strongly committed to keeping coaching salaries suppressed. Yeah, that’ll work.
3. In spite of the split fan base, divided athletic dept and a disasterous product on the field all year, Brandon had no candidate in hand before firing Rodriguez. Did not even have a short list. Plus, the disorganized way Rodriguez was fired also stronly suggests it was ultimately not Brandon’s decision.
So the reality is that the "Michigan Man’ is a person that promotes bureaucratic infighting, lives in the past and has no concept of effective management.
And THIS is what Les Miles wants to leave his program at LSU for? Miles is simply looking for leverage to get a well-deserved raise at a time when LSU is under great financial constraint. The boosters will find the money and ESPN will have egg on its face again. As if they care.

He doesn't need another raise. Move along now.

Sounds like Bama before they got tired of losing and hired Saban

Do Carr, and Les actually get along, and see eye to eye?

Well he does have a degree in Economics...

I think the athletic department is less of a mess than you think. The UM athletic director always has the power to make the decisions he wants. Bill Martin went ahead with the luxury boxes despite overwhelming disapproval from most of the fanbase.
I don't think UM has ivy league envy. It's a great school but alot of people use it as a stepping stone to get into elite grad programs (MIT, Stanford, Harvard, etc). The AD also said he would spend big bucks to get a great coach.
