Not upset by the hire...just perplexed. Plenty of proven coaches out there granted I was not on the hiring committe so I was not privy to their process. One solid coach is the NC State coach Tom O'Brian who is turning the program around. He was solid at Boston College prior. Former marine runs a tight ship with traditional tactics. Funny thing is his D coor is former LSU head coach Mike Archer.

Posted by pimpshiznit according to a lot of rantards Chizek was a bust too. Nobody knows chit about this hire until he coaches at least ONE season

Take away newton and chizik is .500 or so this year. Going with WM is a roll of the dice for UF. Clearly they were turned down in private by sitting HCs that they approached

Your posts suggest otherwise.

People who are football people hold him in high regard. There is only a handful of coaches who people would have been impressed with going to UF and most of them are in good situations where they are at. People act as if all these "proven" coaches wanted to follow Meyer. I'm not convinced of that.

And dude, Tom O'Brien is 62 years old. They were not about to hire someone that old.

Rocket.....When I tell you I am not upset (personally) over this hire you can assume I know how I feel a little better than someone else.

3 of 5 wins this year were Rice, Wyoming and Florida Atlantic. Not too hard to build up stats to the top of the list with that powderpuff schedule.

You are saying that now but before I mentioned it, your posts suggested otherwise.

correction texas defense ranked 7th in ncaa total d LSU 8th

UT's Scoring Defense was not that great. Must of been defending a short field.

i have a hard time believing he is even some magical defensive coordinator. lets all remember he played against a certain type of offense in the big12 week after week. the SEC is going to be a huge challenge for him, it will be interesting to see how this one develops. past history suggests this hire will not turn out well though, but anything can happen.

I agree they could have done better, but I thought the same thing when they hired Meyer even though he was a head coach. Let's see what happens. We haven't exactly come close to a West title the last 3 years at LSU. We averaged 3.3 games out of the West the last 3 years. Florida has gone to Atlanta 2 times in 3 years. They are doing something right that LSU ain't doing.

Just because this guy gets all fired up he has done nothing to prove he can coach. Big 12 defenses,statistically, have been a joke for years

all big 12 defenses are not a joke. sure, they have some and went thru a period where they had most of them that way. but, oklahoma and texas have always pretty much had good defenses (sec caliber). now texas a&m and nebraska does too. the big 12 went thru the "spread craze" where offense was everything but they seem to now understand that defense and good solid offense is the way to win championships. i think the big 12 has been the second best conference for awhile now. the pro's went thru their "spread craze" a coupla decades ago with their run and shoot offense. it's exciting and it enables lower quality teams to win some games if they have the right personnel running it.

... "Boom" Muschamp's defense this year give up big yards and points...they just weren't that good .. e.g :

UCLA = 34 pts
Oklahoma = 28 pts
Iowa State = 28 pts
Baylor = 30 pts
Kansas State = 39 pts !!
Okla State = 33 pts

.. is that supposed to be good ? well, it ain't !!
