I bet he wasn't offered but the momentum among the Mich faithful and maybe some/most of the boosters was going in Les' direction. I also think Carr kept Les out of the picture and influenced Martin. I think Les was going to leave but it all went fubar on him.

Strike while the iron is hot which is why JH will leave Stanford...these opportunities won't be available next year and what happens if the Cards lay eggs next year?

Heard earlier tonight that the same thing may be happening again...Brandon wants Hoke but the fanbase/boosters want JH.

why would you want to be rid of the coach that led LSU to the BCSNC game that same year? Defies logic.

And he stayed because he got paid with a ludicrous contract. That's the point.

Eventually...yes...and after it was clear that he couldn't get the Mich job.

He said he was staying well before he got that contract. He got that contract for winning the NC

time will tell, but winning a BCSNC games tends to result in big contract renewals. That's just reality. I suppose if some rantards had their way, coaches would be hired on a week to week basis.

I am referring to his extension, not the final salary boost after the SECCG and MNC win.

I don't blame Les for taking the money and the contract. I just think it's hilarious people actually think he turned down a legit offer to stay at LSU, thus making some huge sacrifice.

I think that it's hilarious to speculate what happened either way. Nobody truly knows what was or wasn't offered.

I think its hilarious that you're stating all this like its a fact when you have no idea what happened between UM, Miles, and LSU.

Agreed. I tend to believe the more logical answer is Les wasn't offered and LSU offered him the extension in panic. He wisely took it.

If Les got offered the job this time, he should take it if he really loves UM. His daughter is an amazing swimmer supposedly and graduating soon. UM has a great swimming program while LSU's is a joke.

It has positive implications for her if he goes too. That shouldn't be his lone reason, but factoring it in helps for him to think about taking it.

Also agree...partially. I think he was probably going to be offered except Carr pulled a manuever.

I am not saying Les wasn't a legit candidate. Please don't assume that's what I meant. I am referring to people thinking it was basically a done deal and he was offered the job officially and then turned around and turned it down for his love of LSU.

Les is a loyal coach. I'll give him that. It's one of the reasons I could see him not taking the UM job this time around. To not put LSU in a perceived bind in having to hire a coach so late.

I just think if Les really loves UM and wants to have this chance, if it legitimately comes up this time, he should take it.

I know you didn't mean that. I just added that I think it was heading towards being a done deal but Carr kept stopped it...and...if Brandon was involved back then Les definitely doesn't have a chance now.

That being said, I hope he does go to UM. Everybody should get a chance at their dream job but very few of us ever have the opportunity.

I also think he'll fit in extremely well at UM. I think Miles is a good coach, but just in a bit over his head at times in the SEC. I think his style will work extremely well in the Big Ten. He's a motivator, but in the SEC motivation and talent alone won't win you multiple titles. Player development on top of those things will.

I think in year 2 it would if he went now. Next year will be tough given the poor recruiting that RichRod has done on the defensive side of the ball. Les would have them motivated like no other for that game though.
