From what i have read on the net. I have figured that their is one man right now that can get us to a top 5 ranking in total defense. Bud Foster from Virginia Tech would fit that bill IMHO. Very passionate, excellent recruiter, in your face coach.
The chances of us getting him is very slim to say the least. I think he is waiting on Beamer to retire and is perfectly satisfied with his situation.
But, I would still go after him. You never know, maybe he could be an associate head coach at LSU which i dont think he is at Tech. I think the biggest thing LSU could offer him is to play for National Championships. I dont think he will get their as quick with Tech. He could always go back to Tech if he wanted to later in his career. No talent like the SEC.
If we got a coach like this, it is obvious that a coach of this calibar will leave eventually. So with that being said, who do you put in place to shore up the program.
Who is the next young, talented, smart, up an coming DB, DL linebacker coach?
Another coach for DC you may want to check out is Reggie Herring. Don't know a whole lot about him except for whats on Wikipedia.
Dick Bumpas could be a good one also. But its a gamble, would have to do a heavy evaluation.
TCU could be a Muschamp and Saban right now. Its very similar over their. When Saban was here Muscamp was the DC but worked hand and hand with Saban. Maybe its the same thing at TCU. Apparently Muschamp understood a lot of Sabans schemes and has been able to expand upon that on his on. Could Bumpas be the same kind of person. Could he work just as well away from TCU's head coach? If so a heavy evaluation and interview is needed.
Koenning has had top 25 defenses while at Clemson. He seems aggressive enough, but how many All americans has he coached in his tenure? How many 5 star recruits has he recruited. and the biggest question. How will he slow Florida Down!!!! Can he shut them down to 30 points or less and still hold up the power offense like Alabama in check? He has never had a top 5 defense, and I beleive we may see a bend but dont break defense until the get in to LSU territory. He will blitz, other teams will see it coming, but will not scheme well. Not completely sold on him as of yet. But still like him better than Chavis.
The SEC is the best of the best in college football. Which DC can compete and get us a top 5 ranking like we have had for 5-7 years now.
