Miles surely has his faults and he has to get rid of Crowton before February, but the guy has kept up LSU's recent success and even improved it in areas. I am not sure if he will continue his success in the future and I understand his critics, BUT this Michigan fiasco should drive home the problem with firing a coach - finding a replacement.

Most across the country thought UM would not be turned down by Harbaugh, but if so, they were a lock with Miles. Look how that turned out. Programs get criticized for talking to potential HCs before they have fired their own, but now you can see why. Unless you can find the right replacement, you may be better sticking with what you have. Rich Rod will probably deserved another year now considering that Hoke will likely be his replacement. Much like the saying goes that it is easier to find a new job when you already have one as compared to being unemployed, so to can you ridicule your coach all you want while he is here because you fantasize about his impressive replacements, but unless those guys are locks, you are better off staying with Miles.

Rich Rod absolutely deserved more time. You are correct, Les isn't perfect but there is no guarantee we'd get a better replacement. The opposite is more likely.

Of course. It is asinine to think that scares off coaches though. People always warn about firing a coach who is winning and say that people will be scared to come to your school as a coach, but 99.9% of top coaches have the self-confidence to go into any situation and think they can win. Firing Rod seemed like the route to go if you could land Harbaugh or Miles, but now they may be up shite creek without a paddle. I think he would be a wildcard to get perhaps a 2-yr contract if Hoke does not win over Brandon.
