Lane will indirectly fix the football recruiting calendar

Coaches / Teams are being put in this position because the NCAA is run by idiots. Pressure will be on the brass to fix this by next year.

The recruiting calendar was changed at the request of coaches to have an early signing period. The rest of the calendar is based on schools admission requirements and when semesters begin. The recruiting calendar isn't as big of a deal as the game/playoff calendar.
Move everything up, kill conference championship games, and let the playoffs finish earlier and a lot of this is avoided.

What can be done to fix it? The early signing period was put in before the Transfer Portal and the 12 team playoff.
