Tucker’s name kept coming up in coaching circles as a highly respected candidate.
No it didn't. Tucker's name keeps coming up because of who we hired as president.

1) When Scott talked to Saban it was about Tucker and Napier. Saban recommended Tucker.
And which one of those 2 leaked that info? Yeah, neither one of them are leakers. So either that call never happened, or Scott leaked it for a smokescreen.
Also, Saban last recommended Houston Nutt to coach LSU. SW isnt going to take Saban's advice on who Saban thinks is best suited to beat Bama. Notice Jimbo's name didn't come up in that supposed conversation.

If he's hired, it will be solely because he is black.
And I think you guys are making too much about the Saban and Woodward thing. They’re friends, so it’s not very hard to imagine them having a casual conversation about what to look for in a HC in 2021. Since they both worked for him, maybe Woodward asks specifically what he thought of Napier and Tucker. Or maybe he asked about Napier, and Saban said the guy he should be looking at is Tucker. Reaching out to people you trust has always been part of the process of hiring a new coach. It’s not like Saban is gonna tell Scott who to hire, and he’s just gonna do it based solely on that. It may simply get Tucker an interview and that’s it.
And Saban does have an ego and is probably thinking about his legacy. Part of that is his coaching tree, which includes Jimbo, Kirby, Napier, and Cristobal. Another successful former coach would only add to that. And LSU is also a part of Saban’s legacy. He could have built this program up and changed the expectations in just 5 seasons that the next 3 guys all won NCs. And I don’t think he’s worried about Tucker or anybody else beating him. He’s probably only got 4 or 5 years left anyway. And I don’t think he really cares all that much about what happens to Bama’s program after he leaves. If anything, his ego probably on some level makes him want to see his successor not continue the monster the created there as it could potentially take a little shine off what he’s done. That bastard may not want Bama ever to win another NC after he’s gone.
Woodward showed with the hiring of Jay Johnson that there are certain qualities he is looking for in a head coach and is gonna be open to more candidates than just the big names. I think he’ll hope the recommendations of people he trusts and the proceeding interviews help identify the best guy who possesses those qualities (forward thinking using analytics in new ways, very intelligent, a great communicator and teacher, pays fantastic attention to detail, etc…). That may not be Tucker at all. It just bothers me that so many people think if Tucker IS hired, it will only be because he’s black. Because that simply would not be true. And it perpetuates the negative perception people have of us as racist rednecks and coon asses, which pisses me off.
But to be clear—Tucker would not be near the top of my list and his being black should have absolutely zero to do with whether he is hired. At all. But it also shouldn’t completely eliminate him either.

I know people who worked with him at Colorado, besides lying, no one thought he was particularly engaged
This is interesting, especially the part about him not being particularly engaged. I’m sure with the timing of his leaving Colorado after just one season soured a lot of their fans and admins on him. I’d like to get some input from some MSU fans. He may be a huge piece of shite and a totally incompetent head coach. I have no idea.

Just passing on gossip, no idea the truth. Came from a couple guys in the AD. He was supposed to be a burn the candle at both ends guy and that was not their impression. Of course he fricked them bad so who knows?
