I agree. Every day makes a helluva difference at this point.

I think that Saban was/is the best defensive mind in the country and at one point he was our coach. I honestly believe that Gus might present us with the same thing but on the opposite side of the ball. He did it at Tulsa, he did it with Chris Todd at Auburn, and he's shown what a talented player can do for him at Auburn this year. I think it's certainly a risk, but the reward could be the best offensive mind in the game as our coach with the possibility of keeping Chavis and our defensive guys. Combined with the fact that he's recruited all around the area and he could be an asset early on that front and keep our recruits here.

Gus could be an amazing hire for us.

Plus, he's young and should he succcede, could be at LSU for a very long time.

LSU should have an offensive coordinator position open, hire him for that and give him the Asst. HC label.

No sense in hiring a buy with so little experience as HC when all you want is is OC skills.

Agreed. Not sure LSU is ready to hire a guy as HC that was coaching in high school 5 years ago. And I don't want to turn into an all offense, no defense type team.

tiger authority i looked at malzhan's bio he would be an amazing hire for lsu if we keep chavis and the d staff.

Will lsu offer? In my lifetime lsu turned down bobby bowdin when he was new at fla state, and Steve spurrior before he went to florida,
Lets hope history does not repeat itself.

Why would he have an incentive to leave AU at this stage if it's not for a head coaching job.

I love this hire over any other possibility that's been listed (except for maybe Jimbo Fisher). One of, if not the top, offensive mastermind in college football right now, and he's the nonchalant type of guy who wouldn't come on with many other guys. Likely let the whole defensive side of the staff stay, hold onto Wilson and Gonzales on the offensive side, and just come in and do his own thing.

If you hire Bo, who I think is a bad hire in the first place, you bring in Carl as well, who only looks good because of guys like Suh and Crick. By doing this, you remove Chavis and Haley, a guy who has done amazing things since being here.

Give the guy the money and see what he can do.

I think the one good thing is that there are more quality DC's out there to hire than quality OC's. If he could keep a guy like Chavis, I think we would be very very good for years to come. I don't want to be all offense, but look at Auburn and Oregon and how that has worked out for them. I would rather be undefeated playing for a title than sitting at home having already played.

The retards on this site cant understand that.
I hear people I know bad mouth Miles and they arent sure why they are doing it.
Its like a snowball that got out of control.
I asked my buddy why he hates Miles so much and who would he replace him with and he had no answer. Neither do 90% of the morons here that post shite about him daily.

I would hope he would keep chavis and his staff that would be the wise thing to do.

The combo( chavis Malzhan)would be great!

i love the guy. its well documented. but since it is a riskier endeavor, we need to cover ourselves a bit and say: "heres $2.5M/yr, you get more when you prove you can win." 2.5M is pretty good, and weve proven we pay big bucks when you produce.

hire him as an OC
hes making $1.3M as aubbie's OC. seems strange, huh? maybe aubbie sees what really going on and knows the guy is a big key to their success. if we wanted him for OC only, we'd have to pony up big time. and then miles would meddle in his genius the first chance he got

This isn't his 1st year at AU. They had the #1 offense in the SEC last year with Chris Todd at QB.

Oregon' scoring D is actually decent, but yeah, they win with offense. AU just wins with Cam.
There are other candidates I would call before Malzahn, especially for 4 million.

$$ and the asst. HC title.

First, LSU isn't hiring a guy who was coaching HS a few years ago. Second, this guy is tied to Auburn and there is dirt on that program right now.

Picking Malzahn to run a top ten program just because he is a decent OC is like buying a TV because you like the box. I don't see anything that says he is ready to run a top program and I seriously doubt any program worth a damn will take that risk.

when has Malzahn been a head coach? I'd kinda like to see how productive his offense is w/o Newton.

Ranked 16th in the country in total offense last year with Chris Todd at QB.

Auburn ranked 104th in total offense the year before

Their rushing offense improved from 69th in the country to 13th best

Their passing offense improved from 99th in the country to 56th

As far as balance, they rushed for 212 yards and passed for 219 yards a game last year

His offense works. And this is coming from someone who laughed his arse off when he was first hired by Arkansas
