how often do you hire away somebody's top coach?

it just doesn't happen. coaches just don't jump from a top program to another. unless they are moving up or it's their dream job. generally you have to be very fortunate with timing or make a great hire of a young coach who turns out to be very successful.

Alabama lucked into nick. we had hired him away from Michigan state while he was an up and comer and it was an upward move. he left us because he wanted to be an nfl coach. he bombed at Miami at the time he bama needed a new HC.

herman wants texas. nothing against us but that's where he wants to be. jimbo would be a great fit here but it's a lateral move. who is there?

we are going hard after the 2 guys mentioned above, but if we don't get them, we're going to have to take a chance. there is no home run hire out there.
