Curious about how negotiations work in a search such as this?

When an AD is interviewing potential coaches, do they go back and forth negotiating salaries with multiple top candidates at the same time and once one hits all his triggers as far as salaries and concessions then makes the deal with him, or do they go after #1 negotiate and if it falls apart start the negotiations with #2 and so on?

Assume that the first thing is parties signaling interest. Scott probably has a list of people who want the job and another of people who want raises.
Those with interest are interviewed and chosen, then salary is hashed out from there. I don’t think a good AD would skip out on a coach because of the relative price, just like I don’t think a coach who wants the LSU job would be unreasonable during negotiations

You’re asking a place that has probably never handled a hire of this importance or power lol.

Seems like doing them one a time would be to time consuming. But if you have a list of say four, and each wants certain concessions in addition to his salary, assistant highest, facility upgrades for example and of course salary. You would be working all three, moving forward, and if’s would weeks in to it #1 gets hung up on a technicality, you are half way there with #2 and #3. When an agreement is reached for both sides let’s say #3. Would you sign the deal locking him in breaking off negotiations with #3?

Yes and no. You'll have your guy and you'll be all in with those negotiations with them as soon as they're ready. The others are contingencies, you'd possibly be negotiating with them, or go for the long sale. Keeping contact but not bringing out the paperwork just yet. There are different ways to do it.There are alot of moving parts and these guys are all in the midst of their seasons as well. Could be completely possible that nothing is getting done yet except for vetting and talking to agents.
