When a crocodile eats the sun
This book has been recommended elsewhere on Tiger Droppings, and I read it and found it interesting enough that I've bought it so I can share it with friends.

Along with some of Paul Theroux's books about his life in that part of the world-from a perspective of several decades- I have pictures in my mind of the world there.

Today we got the DVD "Volatile Earth" from the library. A recent NOVA release, it's from that part of the world, and now I have images of the towns and countryside in vivid color. If you've no interest in volcanoes, I think you'd still enjoy seeing the modern world there and it will give you an additional perspective into reading about those countries,
