What is the boards opinion of Charles Bukowski?

New here..
I read Post Office a couple of years ago while on vacation and really enjoyed it. It was the perfect light read while relaxing on the beach. I decided to try another Bukowski book and just finished Pulp last night… I thought it was very Meh. I really thought that it tried too hard to be funny and outlandish and many of the quips did no land. It just came across as kind of cringe.
I realize that they are both on the very opposite ends of CBs career (post office being one of the first books he wrote and pulp being one of the last) so that might have something to do with it. Should I give up on CB or give some of his other works a shot?

Ham On Rye. I'm a fan of his friend John Fante who wrote Ask The Dust. I would suggest you read that next.

I’ll have to check both out. Thanks

I read all of his “novels” a few years ago. Thought they were very funny. There is a chronology to them but I feel like pulp was my least favorite. Women and Ham on rye were pretty good and Hollywood was alright.
