Trying to remember a book
This is frustrating. It’s a mystery/ psychological thriller.
Two sisters go to a mall. Older one leaves the other one and goes off to do something on her own. The younger sister doesn’t show up a their appointed time to meet ( apparently abducted). The remainder of the book involves trying to find out what happene.

Of course, there was a lot more going on in each of the sisters’ separate lives than isrevealed initially. I think the missing sister actually turns up early in and much of the story is told from her perspective.

re: Trying to remember a book
I'm not sure this is it but it was the first thing I thought of.

What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman

Thirty years ago two sisters disappeared from a shopping mall. Their bodies were never found and those familiar with the case have always been tortured by these questions: How do you kidnap two girls? Who'or what'could have lured the two sisters away from a busy mall on a Saturday afternoon without leaving behind a single clue or witness?

Now a clearly disoriented woman involved in a rush-hour hit-and-run claims to be the younger of the long-gone Bethany sisters. But her involuntary admission and subsequent attempt to stonewall investigators only deepens the mystery. Where has she been, why has she waited so long to come forward? Could her abductor truly be a beloved Baltimore cop? There isn't a shred of evidence to support her story, and every lead she gives the police seems to be another dead-end'a dying, incoherent man, a razed house, a missing grave, and a family that disintegrated long ago, torn apart not only by the crime but by the fissures the tragedy revealed in what appeared to be the perfect household.

In a story that moves back and forth across the decades, there is only one person who dares to be skeptical of a woman who wants to claim the identity of one Bethany sister without revealing the fate of the other. Will he be able to discover the truth?

Good find! That’s it. Lippman throws in a couple of twists that you don’t see coming. She’s always a reliable author. I was lucky enough to meet her at the Tennessee Williams Festival one year. She is a very cool woman.

Glad I could help. I feel like I read that 10 years ago so I wasn't sure it was it. I've always wanted to read her series of books about the female PI but haven't. I've liked the 2 books I've read by her and she's married to Wire creator David Simon.

Sorta reminds me of The Lovely Bones for some reason.
