Started reading this series about 2 weeks ago and currently about half way through Jade War I am loving the series so far. The setting and feel of the world has really captured me, highly recommend if anyone is contemplating reading it. Wondering how others who have read feel about Hilo, I find myself drawn to his character even though he has done very questionable things.

I just started Jade City and I really like it so far. I really like the mix of crime thriller and magical martial arts. Just a fun concept and it seems like a book written with my tastes in mind.

Agreed
I’ve always been interested in the mythic nature of some of Asian culture and this touches on that. I also like how it is a take on a more modern fantasy as opposed to other fantasy series.

This series has been great so far, she does a great job of making an Asian Godfather type series, giving you a very interesting story and main characters who you can relate to, but are also very questionable moral characters in many ways.

If you are digging the Asian fantasy vibe from this series, I'd highly suggest The Sword of Kaigen by M L Wang, it's a fantastic book as well.

Started Sword of Kaigen but put it on hold at the time because I was getting some YA vibes and was more in epic adult fantasy mood. Going to have to pick it back up after I finish this series.

I could see that in the early parts of the book. That changes fairly quickly once you get 1/3 or so into it.

Guess I didn’t give it enough time, assumed it was in the YA category and switched to The First Law series which I very much enjoyed.

I could see the majority of the first book feeling appropriate for teenage readers, but there is graphic description of sex in the first 100 pages of that book.

I could easily see that since it starts as the typical young kids going to school/training trope, but the main character is really the Mom for most the story.

Just finished Jade War yesterday afternoon, wow cannot wait for Jade Legacy. I came into this series with pretty high expectations from the reviews I had seen but it has still exceeded them to this point. The aura of the story and world has surprised me, it’s blown me away.

Almost finished with The sword of Kaigen… thanks for the recommendation to give it another go, definitely changed tone from YA to adult and got pretty dark. Thanks also for making my allergies act up some hard moments in this book.

Yeah, it was one of the better written books I'd read in a while in that regard. She did a fantastic job building up the characters and making you feel for them.

And yeah, once the action starts it gets adult really quick, and it has some great battle scenes too.

Do you have any other Fantasy books/series you highly recommend. You seem to have good taste and I’m looking for something currently.

If you check the first page of Sally's fantasy sci Fi recommendation thread I have a post on there with a bunch of recs (and your post made me update that with some newer stuff I've read).

Will Wight is one of my favorites right now, his Cradle series in particular.

It took me until the middle of the 2nd book, but I finally realized I'm basically reading an anime show. It's cool though.

Yep, basically a top tier anime and fantasy hybrid, with some sci Fi elements in the background(for now anyway). It starts to really take off during the 4th and fifth books, once Eithan and Dross come into the picture.
