I’ve heard the books are good. Scy FY/Amazon has a series based on the novels that I really like? Anyone read them? How close are they to the books?

The books are good - goes into a lot more detail and character development than the show (which I also like a lot).
There is one book which I believe is weaker than the rest. But otherwise, they are good.
I will warn you that there are some differences - not really spoilers, but loosely, the TV series does some of the plot points in a different order, for a variety of reasons, and some of the characters aren't in all books, but are in the seasons. So just know that going in its a very similar, but different ride through this point.

Im just starting book 6.
Really like them a lot.
Not sure about the TV series. I watched half of the first episode about a year ago and didn’t care for it.
The TV series seemed to jump around between books with characters in the first episode of the the show that didn’t show up in the novels until book 2 or 3.

So I can’t just pick the novels where the series is at right now?

I don’t know where the series is. I only watched half of one episode.
But if you are interested in the books, and I think they are very good, I’d start at the beginning with Leviathan Wakes.

They’re in the bubble at the ring. The Indian with the name I can’t pronounce is the Secretary General. The OPA turned the Mormon ship into a warship. Naomi is on that. Holden started seeing Miller in his head and acted kinda crazy but went the the ring core. That’s really all I remember.

I’m so tempted to downvote the OP for wording his opening post this way .... as if the books or the series have not been discussed here, ad nauseam, on an almost monthly basis.

Ehhh I would read all of them. If you start with the 4th book Cibola Burn (which is where the TV series is now) you'll probably have a bad time because it's a lot different than the first three books.

Okay, fair enough. Sometimes the search function doesn’t come through, that’s for sure.
Leviathan Wakes was the first in the series and we’ve discussed them all over time. Some people were turned on to the seven book series by the TV show on SciFi but most of us over here had read the series before the TV show debuted. We were pretty excited about it actually and they did a good job, for the most part, with the translation to a script.
How many of the books have you read so far? Or are you already into the novellas and comic books?

I just started Leviathan Wakes yesterday. I had binge watched the series up through Season 3 and really liked it. I’m a big fan of the space opera genre.

Space opera with horror and other elements in it. It’s quite good. I really enjoy the characters and their growth over time.

I'm about four episodes into Season 3 but one big thing is that the seasons don't follow the books exactly. For instance, the first two episodes of Season 2 are actually the end of Leviathan Wakes. And even though I'm four episodes into Season 3, the plot is still from the second book, Caliban's War.
The first three books were fantastic. I thought book four, Cibola Burn, was slow and a bit off of the main plot of the series. That seems to be the consensus among readers. I'll start the next book here shortly.

Cibola Burn is my least favorite so far. But the next one Nemesis Games is probably my favorite.
Just starting book 6

I’m almost done with Leviathan Wakes. I like it a lot and it’s a quick read because I already know most of the characters. Although I’ll say I think I like what the tv series did with the story a bit more so far. I also like Amos’ character a bit more on the tv show. But it’s still got my attention and I plan to keep reading.

I haven’t watched the TV series but as the books go on Amos has become my favorite character

He’s awesome in the series. When you get the chance I recommend the show. I really enjoy it.

he gets better as the series goes on, and his role increases in the book.
I love the books. My wife gave up on season 2 of the series, and I never bothered to dive in.

Excellent books, I would say the show matches up very close just it's out of order a little. Next book is supposed to be out Tuesday 3/29.

This is good to hear. I'm nearing the end of cibolo burn and it's been a snooze. The show is phenomenal, though.
Did they just release the 8th book? Or was that in december? Just got an Amazon email about it.
