I am impressed with how good it is. Of course, I suppose there is a reason it is a classic. I find it well written, compelling, intriguing and thought provoking. I love how the reader pieces the mystery together through the epistolary story telling. The scenic and character descriptions are transporting. Also, the major themes were ahead of their time. I liked the Coppola film, but what I have learned is you really can't capture the novel in a movie. (Of course, that's almost always the case). If you're looking for a Halloween read this October, I would recommend it.
Conversely, if you have other recommendations commensurate with this let me know.

How far along are you?
A major gripe I always hear about it is that close to halfway through, it starts to drag on.
