Have you read any outside of the main 10, may pick up one of them in the coming months?

Ya, I've read them all except for the Kharkanas books (want the trilogy to be complete before I read).

If you're a fan of the Seguleh, Orb, Scepter, Throne is a must read. They're all good books though. Fill in a lot of the backstory, especially around the Crimson Guard.

Esslemont does a solid job. Not quite Erikson's level, but few authors are.

Any particular order i should go about? Are they all grouped in some fashion or is it a bunch of stand-alone books as well.

The first ones he wrote aren't grouped per say, but you'd probably want to read the 2nd through 6th books of Esslemont (that occur concurrently with the malazan books) in publication order, mainly because a few of the characters will pop up in each books after having done something in a book or two previously. I think Return of the Crimson guard is probably Esslemont's weakest book, but I'd read it first in that sequence just because the story of the characters in that book continues in his book Blood and Bone.

His most recent two books that I mentioned are part of a trilogy though, so you'd want to read them together (and those two would be my suggestion to read first).

I wonder if we'll even see that trilogy completed now with him having to push the last book back and write the Karsa trilogy.

I'm not exactly upset about that though really, as I was torn on the Kharkanas books. The first one was excellent, but the second one was pretty bad (that book and Dust of Dreams are the only two Erikson books I really haven't cared for).

From the authors themselves: Erikson and Esslemont's Recommended Read Order

ETA: I'd recommend reading Assail as the last book instead of before DoD/TCG since it actually happens just after TCG. Odd that the authors would place it where they did in the read order.

They definitely broach the subject matter I would be most interested - along with the Karsa Trilogy (Karsa's 100 page introduction chapter is one of the best parts of the main series IMO).

But i like finished series so will probably hit the suggested main Esselmont ones first and then circle back to these trilogy's later.

I mentioned this on a previous thread but there is a great website that has some insights and discussions on each book, including Esslemont’s.

Go to LINK and check it out. I followed their posts and comments and I caught some pretty big things I missed while reading.

Great series I liked them on audiobook as well.
