Has anyone read all the books in the lonesome dove series? I've read lonesome dove and it is definitely in my top 3 books of all time. Just went to the store and picked up streets of Laredo and Comanche moon. They did not have dead man's walk. Which one should I read of those two? Or do I need to hang tight until I get dead man's walk? The time line doesn't coincide with the print date, but is it alright to jump around?

Yeah should be fine to jump around. I didn't find it mattered too much what order I read them in. None of them, I thought, were as good as LD but I enjoyed them all.

Halfway through streets of Laredo, it's good suppose but definitely not anything close to LD. Just missing Gus. Think him and deets were definitely my favorite characters.

Going to read deadmans walk next.

I read them in the order he wrote them, but I wouldn't say you have to. McMurtry has no method or chronological order to his writing so it doesn't really matter. Streets of Laredo was my least favorite of the series by far, but it's still a great book. Deam Man's Walk and Comanche Moon are fantastic.

I really enjoyed the audio versions of the series. I listened to them in chronological order which I think added to the books.

I've looking for another western series to try after I finish the Flashman books.

Streets of Laredo is my least favorite for the sole purpose that there is no Gus. Call is more likeable when Gus is around. Don't expect any of them to live up to LD, but theyre good. Dead Man's Walk is it's own story. Comanche Moon really just kind of fills in the gap and shows the developments between DMW and LD, but it is a fun read.
