The Trouble with Peace
quote:
A fragile peace gives way to conspiracy, betrayal, and rebellion in this sequel to the New York Times bestselling A Little Hatred from epic fantasy master Joe Abercrombie.
Peace is just another kind of battlefield . . .
Savine dan Glokta, once Adua's most powerful investor, finds her judgement, fortune and reputation in tatters. But she still has all her ambitions, and no scruple will be permitted to stand in her way.
For heroes like Leo dan Brock and Stour Nightfall, only happy with swords drawn, peace is an ordeal to end as soon as possible. But grievances must be nursed, power seized, and allies gathered first, while Rikke must master the power of the Long Eye . . . before it kills her.
Unrest worms into every layer of society. The Breakers still lurk in the shadows, plotting to free the common man from his shackles, while noblemen bicker for their own advantage. Orso struggles to find a safe path through the maze of knives that is politics, only for his enemies, and his debts, to multiply.
The old ways are swept aside, and the old leaders with them, but those who would seize the reins of power will find no alliance, no friendship, and no peace lasts forever.

The one off books are better than the trilogy to me. The first book of the new trilogy I'd put on par with the last book of the first trilogy.
Obviously the are all Abercrombie so its all gritty, so you'd probably want to read it after something more fun like Pratchett or Riyria, not the Gap cycle.

I hope we get more Sand dan glokta. He was my favorite throughout the first trilogy. i wonder if we will find out what happened to Farrow Malgin? I didn’t care for her character, just want to see what happens now she touched the seed. i also hope for Bayez to go out horribly.

I need to add the stand alone books to my list.
It would be nice to have a Logen Nine Fingers appearance in this new trilogy.

The stuff about Khalul and the empire in the first book make me think we might get some info on Ferro. Hopefully we do.

Yeah, you really need to read the the stand alone books.
Even beyond the awesomeness and what you just posted, Gorst, Brocks Mom, and Black Calder are all main characters in the second stand alone, you are missing a crap ton of backstory for the new trilogy.

I figured as much. The local Barnes and Nobles doesn't have it. I need to stop being lazy and just order them.

I don't have a kindle.
Get Libby on your phone. Enter your library. Enter your library card. Search for books.
Doing library books on the kindle was kind of a pain. Libby is much easier.

You mean reading a book on my phone? Because that sounds awful.

I'm 33 chapters in. The narration is fantastic. His prose may be the best I've ever read from him. And the characters are all very intriguing. The story hasn't sucked ne in yet though. I'm sure it will eventually, but the first trilogy grabbed hold of me really quickly.

Just finished the audiobook. Steve. Pacey is one of the best in the business. I’m not sure what to think about the story yet. This one didn’t draw me in as much as the other books. Stour Nightfall seems to be a lame rehash of Black Dow without personality. I wanted Savine to be ruthless like her adoptive father, she was a disappointment. Ourso and Leo weren’t compelling characters as well. I hope the next book turns it around. Not to say it wasn’t good, but the original trilogy is one of my favorites and i had higher expectations.
