Anybody read this series? I am not a real fantasy fan, but do like some sci-fi.
Apparently his previous series, Kingfountain, was well received, but it seems like too much heavy fantasy for my taste.

Not heavy fantasy at all. Easy fantasy with a girl power theme behind it. It wasn't bad at all. Worth a read/listen, since the book and audiobook are free on kindle unlimited, imo. But not on the same level as most of the fantasy we usually discuss here.
I almost started the Harbinger series yesterday, but started The Crimson Queen instead due to Scruffy and Auyushu's recommendation.
