Anyone read this? I bought it yesterday on a whim. I love this era in history.

No but I'm interested. Let us know what you think of it.

I was just coming here to ask if anybody could recommend a good history of the crusades. Let us know how it is.

I bought this book several years ago and came away unimpressed after failing to finish it. The author was too focused on impressing the reader with his advanced vocabulary and grammatical prose. I read on a college level and even I was having difficulty slogging through it.

Well that’s unfortunate to hear. I haven’t started it yet.
I can recommend God’s Battalions by Rodney Stark, for an accessible history focused mainly on the first crusade. Stark is certainly not politically correct and makes a compelling refutation of the ideas that the crusaders were mere colonizers and ignorant barbarians.

Perhaps not politically correct, but definitely historically accurate.
