Early reader chapter book w animals (old)

Another thread in here got me thinking about a series of chapter books for small kids that were stories about animals in the forest. I remember each animal being called Rabbit or Squirrel or Beaver. The books were small and square. I read these in the lates 70s/early 80s.
Strongly suspect they were published in the 60s but that's a guess. I've looked online a bit but can't find them. Anyone have a name for me?

Nope. I remember those as well.
These were small books bound in different color jackets and the covers were real plain. I must have read 20+ of them. Might have to go back to my elementary school library. They are probably sitting right there.
