I’ve read numerous civil war books but never this one. Considered a complete history of the subject.

I’m no amateur on the topic. Should I read just for the sake of it?

I have others on deck. Tired of the single focal point biography type reads.

Thoughts book board?

I’m reading it right now. It provides a solid construct of the political scene in the country leading up to the breakout of the war. It also provides a general understanding of the military aspects of each battle as the war progressed. In my opinion, it seems to flow pretty well given how complex the subject is. If you are an expert on the subject I’m not sure how much new stuff you will learn. It’s a great civil war source though. The author does a great job of citing his information and providing footnotes to further explain/cite what was written. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the note. I’ve started reading it just because.

Can’t get enough of this subject. Love this time period of our history. It really consumes me.

I’m always open to recommendations so please list what you have enjoyed the most.

I’m a Union man with family from Pennsylvania and East Tennessee that served to preserve the Republic. But Stonewall Jackson is my favorite southern commander.

It’s important to read these all encompassing books to get a proper idea in scope from time to time. I have it set to read soon.

Also, if you’ve never send it, read Soldiers in blue & gray. It’s about the common soldiers experience from everything to camp life to prostitution to medical care. Some of the author’s assertions may be ambitious but the facts are the facts and the facts presented in this book are very enlightening

I added that to my amazon wish list. In other news for my birthday my wife got me “Engineering Victory. How technology won the civil war”.

I can’t read two at a time and was not far in the other so I started this new one. Very cool so far. Will update later.
