Being blind does not make one less intellectual, they have books read to them all the time. Frankly, do not worry about being intellectual, just enjoy the audio books. The performances can add a lot to the books. Like Columbus Day with RC Bray narrating it.

How long are they? Are they the equivalent of a semesters worth of lecture? Or just a 5-10 hour highlight?
If they're a full course worth, I can absolutely see the justification behind the price. The app is the same name I assume?

They're half hour lectures. Different courses have different number of lectures. Era of the Crusades was 36 lectures. So 18 hours worth. And if it's a good course with a good lecturer, then you probably will listen more than once.
Yes app is Great Courses. When you buy an audio or video course you automatically also get the download to the app. So I gave my dad a course on Rome for Father's Day on CD, and I'll get to listen to it on my phone. Or just buy the audio download by itself for cheaper.
I don't get commission from this company or anything. There might be cheaper alternatives or free podcasts or whatever. But I've enjoyed them.

Just an FYI for those that don't know. There's an app called Overdrive (iPhone) that logs you in to your local library if you are a member and you can download audio books to your phone for free. I guess the selection depends on how much your library has. I'm in dfw area and my local has a huge selection.

Libraries these days are great. I forget about them too often.

I use the tunein app. It's a subscription service for $14/mo. but there's a huge selection of radio stations, podcasts, and audio books.

I go through a ton of audiobooks since my total commute each way is about an hour (no driving). Let me know what genre you like and I can recommend some very good narrators. I have about 125 audiobooks right now. Some better than others.
