Any authors comparable to Jonathan Franzen?

Started with The Corrections and then knocked out his other few books in short order. Purity was my favorite.
Do any of you have suggestions for authors that are similar to Franzen?
I know it's kind of an ambiguous question but just looking for any recommendations.

Only read Freedom by Franzen but Michael Chabon kinda sorta.

I don't see the comparison, but I only got halfway through Franzen's The Corrections before wanting to throw it across the room I hated the characters so much. I've liked almost all of the characters in Chabon's books I've read.
