The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then, after a second or so, nothing continued to happen.

Adams was as good with the typewriter/word processor as Carlin was with the spoken word. Masterful use of the English language (and mid/late 20th Century English culture) for laughs.

The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

Such an amazing book.

Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the Universe than we do now.

"Now the world has gone to bed,
Darkness won't engulf my head,
I can see by infra-red,
How I hate the night,
Now I lay me down to sleep,
Try to count electric sheep,
Sweet dream wishes you can keep,
How I hate the night "

Heh, probably ripped off by They Might Be Giants in some lyrics I've always liked:

"Time is marching on, (pause) and time is still marching on."
