ESPN is reporting that the New Orleans Pelicans and Anthony Davis have agreed to a five-year contract extension estimated at nearly $145 million, which will make him one of the leagues richest players.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Pelicans and Davis have agreed to a five-year extension estimated at nearly $145 million that will kick in starting with the 2016-17 season and run through Davis' 28th birthday.

First-round picks from the 2012 NBA draft like Davis are eligible to negotiate contract extensions now through Oct. 31. But like any free-agent deal around the league, they can't be formally signed until July 9, when a league-wide moratorium on roster business is lifted.

Best player to come thru N.O. you have to pay him and build around this guy. He's too good not to pay that money. If we weren't someone would. He can play many positions and is worth the money IMO

The NBA seems determined to spend their way out of business. That guy in Texas that gave A-Rod a 10 year 250 mil contract started this insanity. Is it coincidental that this happened on the same day that Greece went bottoms up?
