Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
A five-year investigation into LSU's basketball program finally ended on Thursday, with the NCAA handing down a ruling that included punishment for the football program.
The basketball violations happened under former head coach Will Wade, who is now the head coach at McNeese State. Wade received a two-year show cause and a 10-game suspension from the NCAA to start next season. When he was hired this offseason, the Cowboys had already self-imposed a five-game suspension for Wade.
The football violations happened under former LSU coaches Les Miles and Ed Orgeron.
The Tigers received a three-year probation punishment for both programs but were not given post-season bans or found to have a lack of institutional control. Per ESPN:

LSU football was hit with one Level I violation for failing to monitor a representative of athletics interests, which resulted in impermissible benefits paid to the father of a former player. The football program and men's basketball program each received a Level II violation for failure to monitor.
Both programs had previously self-imposed penalties, including a postseason ban in 2020-21 for the football program and heavy recruiting restrictions for the men's basketball program. The IARP on Thursday placed both programs on three years' probation.
