After leading by six points at halftime, LSU blew out Mississippi State in route to a 81-57 win on Wednesday night to earn their third straight SEC win. The Tigers improved to 15-3 overall and are now tied with the Bulldogs atop the SEC West with a conference record of 3-1.

Marcus Thornton scored 31 points as LSU extended its homecourt winning streak to 17 games. Tasmin Mitchell was the only other LSU player in double figures with 24 points.

TD.com Hoops expert "Stromile Swift" breaks it down in this post with game and player analysis.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday to face No. 13 Xavier. Tip-off in the PMAC will be at 7:00pm CT. As of 1:30pm today, approximately 1,500 tickets were available for purchase. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

In LSU Football news, sophomore WR Ricky Dixon is transferring to Texas Southern. Dixon, who played high school ball at East St. John, felt he was too far down on the depth chart at LSU and wanted a chance to get on the field.

It is being reported that backup OL Ernest McCoy is also leaving the team.

I also received word that Tight Ends coach Josh Henson will be taking a position on Missouri's staff, and an announcement is forthcoming. Henson will supposedly take over as the new Offensive Line coach at Mizzou. Henson was also the Recruiting Coordinator at LSU, which is mainly an administrative role.

In recruiting news, I have been told that LSU is stepping up its efforts on Andre Debose, the speedy receiver who verbally committed to Florida a few weeks ago. LSU coaches are apparently visiting Debose this week. Read more about LSU's recruiting efforts on our Recruiting Board.

In LSU Alumni Association news, the LSU Atlanta Chapter gained approval to collect applications for the manufacture of special Georgia license plates. Per this post on the Tiger Rant:
quote:

We have until April 24, 2010 to collect 1,000 pre-paid applications for the plates. Applicants do not need to be an LSU alum. If we reach 1,000 applications, the state will begin production, and LSU can join Auburn, Florida and Clemson as out-of-state schools with Georgia plates.

The license plate will look like this:
