Five LSU Tigers have signed free agent contracts with NFL franchises, LSU officials announced Monday.
The list of free agent deals for former Tigers include: linebacker Darry Beckwith to the San Diego Chargers, defensive tackle Marlon Favorite to the Carolina Panthers, defensive end Kirston Pittman to the St. Louis Rams, center Brett Helms to the Houston Texans, and defensive end Tremaine Johnson to the Minnesota Vikings.
Six players were selected in the draft over the weekend, including defensive end Tyson Jackson, who went No. 3 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs. Click here for complete story.
In LSU Baseball news, the Tigers went 5-0 last week and were rewarded by moving up in the latest baseball polls released yesterday. LSU moved up one spot in the Baseball America poll from No. 6 to No. 5. The Tigers jumped five spots in Collegiate Baseball's poll from No. 9 to No. 4. Click here for complete story.
In other baseball news, pitchers Anthony Ranaudo and Matty Ott were recognized Monday for their contributions to the Tigers’ sweep of Auburn last weekend.
Ranaudo was named one of six National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball magazine, and Ott was named SEC Pitcher of the Week by the league office.
LSU (33-12) returns to action tonight against Tulane (26-18) in Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is at 6:30pm CT.
