Sam Burns delivered one of the greatest rounds in major championship history on Friday at the 2026 Open Championship, firing a stunning 8-under 62 at Royal Birkdale.

The round tied the lowest 18-hole score ever recorded in both Open Championship and men's major championship history, matching Lucas Herbert, who shot 62 earlier in the day.

Burns rebounded in spectacular fashion after opening the tournament with a 73, vaulting himself back into contention with a nearly flawless round highlighted by a birdie-filled back nine. He came within a few putts of becoming the first player ever to shoot a 61 in a men's major.

On 18, Burns holed out of a tough green-side bunker to shoot a 62.

Yep he’s been the leader or co-leader on Sunday in what seems like several Major Championships only to fold miserably under the pressure of Leading or co-leasing a Major Championship.
