LSU Reportedly Abstained From SEC Vote Targeting Pro Athletes

LSU reportedly abstained from Wednesday's SEC presidents' vote to approve penalties for schools that play former professional athletes.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the vote passed 15-0, with LSU being the only SEC school to abstain. LSU had participated in the initial 16-0 vote Tuesday that gave commissioner Greg Sankey authority to enforce the conference's new policy.
The SEC's new rule prohibits schools from playing athletes who previously declared for a professional draft without properly withdrawing, signed a professional contract, or appeared on a professional roster. The issue directly impacts LSU, which has pursued several former NFL players who recently regained college eligibility through court rulings.
According to CBS Sports, penalties for violating the policy include a suspension for the head coach covering 50% of the season and a fine equal to 50% of the sport's operating budget.
