LSU safety Jacoby Stevens and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. were two of 42 college football players named to the 2020 Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list on Friday.

The Lott IMPACT Trophy honors college football’s best in character and performance.

JACOBY STEVENS, LSU, S, 6-1, 228, Murfreesboro, TN: All-SEC (2nd team); 85 tackles, 8.5 for losses, 4 interceptions last year; 127 career tackles; community-oriented.

DEREK STINGLEY JR., LSU, CB, 6-1, 190, Baton Rouge, LA: Consensus All-American as a freshman last year; Led the SEC with six interceptions; Had 27 interceptions in high school; Grandfather Derek Stingley played for the New England Patriots and was paralyzed when tackled by Jack Tatum of the Raiders.

Is there anything dumber than Watch Lists? I guess it gives sportswriters a chance to pretend they are doing some sportswriting instead of actually having to do any sportswriting. Now that we have the list of 42 players on the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, do we have to really watch all of them. OK, I'll watch Derek Stingley and Jacoby Stevens but I draw the line on Dicaprio Bootle and Boogie Basham. Now when the Peter Mortell Holder of the Year Trophy Watch List is announced, that will be interesting. Last year's winner was Preston Brady from the University of Memphis. He came out of high school as the nation's 12th ranked long snapper. When you can snap the ball while simultaneously catching and placing it on the ground for the kicker, that's versatility deserving of some recogniton.

Little do the finalist know, if you win you have to cut off your finger on the chance of having 'Ronnie Lott' like NFL career. I think most would say yes.
