The Tampa Bay Rays announced Wednesday that former LSU star Tre Morgan was named their Minor League Player of the Year. Per Yahoo Sports:

Morgan, a 2023 third-round pick from LSU, hit his way through three levels this season, from Class-A Charleston to High-A Bowling Green to Montgomery, posting a .324 average and .891 OPS. He stole 20 bases, hit 10 homers and played high-level defense, while walking the same amount of times as he struck out (48).

“Obviously, we have the No. 1 farm system in baseball. So to get this award, it’s an honor,” Morgan said. “It’s a testament to the work I put in in the offseason. It paid off.”

Rays assistant general manager Kevin Ibach said Morgan forced the Rays to keep promoting him.

“I always say when Tre’ comes in the box, it’s must-watch TV, mo matter where I am,” Ibach said. “I want to see him compete. Of course I’m biased, but I think he’s one of the best competitors in the box in all of minor-league baseball.”
