Tidbits From Brian Kelly On The SEC Coaches Teleconference - Sept. 4, 2024
by Staff Reporter
September 4, 20240 Comments
Brett Patzke-USA TODAY Sports
LSU's Brian Kelly joined the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday morning and recapped the USC loss, and provided team updates ahead of Saturday's home opener vs. Nicholls.
Opening statement:
"It was a disappointing loss. Our guys played hard. USC made a great play at the end. We look to rebound this weekend at Tiger Stadium."
"We have to coach and play better. We have to play a complete game and finish."
On Zy Alexander's recovery from ACL injury:
"He has made really good progress. His workload will increase dramatically over the next four weeks, starting Saturday on special teams. And then corner work in the next few weeks."
More injury updates:
Jardin Gilbert will miss the first half of Saturday due to targeting vs. USC, but he is dealing with a deep hamstring contusion. Jordan Allen is dealing with a bit of a turf toe issue.
Kylin Jackson and Dashawn Spears are getting more reps at safety this week.
On using Garrett Nussmeier's athleticism in the run game:
"We can do more with Nussmeier in the run game. He's not Jayden Daniels, but we can move him around a bit and do the occasional run. As long as it's the right time and place, he can be a weapon."
On bouncing back after the USC loss:
"I'm proud of our guys. It's a short week, and the team got back from Las Vegas late. It's hot and our guys were sore and tired, but they got after it, and they competed."
