The details of Matt Canada's contract have emerged.

According to The Advocate, new LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada has agreed to a three-year deal worth $1.5 million a year. His base salary will be $500,000 and he will make $1 million more coming from media rights compensation and other sources, according to the report.

Here are some other details about his contract, including incentive bonuses and buyout info.
quote:

Canada’s maximum incentive bonus is $150,000. That includes winning the SEC West ($15,000), the SEC championship ($10,000), participating in the College Football Playoffs ($50,000), advancing to the national title game ($25,000), winning the CFP championship ($25,000) and being named offensive coach of the year ($25,000).

Canada’s buyout is similar to that of several other LSU coaches.

If he leaves for a non-head coaching position at another SEC school or to a school within 500 miles of LSU, he owes 40 percent of his remaining salary. If he leaves for similar positions outside of a 500-mile radius of LSU, he owes 15 percent of his salary.

There is no buyout after Dec. 1, 2019.

That should keep him here for awhile, as he is making more money than a lot of head coaches.

Thanks for pointing that out to me MemberSince2003. I now see the incentives are in addition to the $1.5 million per year. I've got to stop speed reading! Lol

That's a lot of money tied to incentives. Not that it's not attainable, but the only guaranteed money is $500,000. Not exactly chump change, but I thought it would be more.

There's another $1M if he just shows up to press conferences. So that's pretty much guaranteed.

I like the terms, but would change the payouts. I'd even set up a go fund me asking fellow Tigers for help - That includes winning the SEC West ($45,000), the SEC championship ($80,000), participating in the College Football Playoffs ($100,000), advancing to the national title game ($155,000), winning the CFP championship ($2,050,000) and being named offensive coach of the year ($155,000).

Wow, that's elite coordinator money. Almost as much as Aranda. Canada hasn't proven he is elite yet, but I really hope he does this year. Either way, anything is better than Les and Cam running the offense.

Don't understand the downvotes, and I agree with you. It'll mostly come down to how he handles the QB position. We have the athletes to run whatever he wants, so that's not a problem.

For all the gripes about Alleva, I really like the way he's structuring our assistants' contracts- especially with the distance clauses. I think we have 2 of the best assistants in football and there's virtually no way they'll end up at SEC west schools anytime soon, gotta admit that that's some solid AD work

That's as a non head coach. They could still leave to be the head coach of an SEC school.

"That's as a non head coach. They could still leave to be the head coach of an SEC school." The article says "some other details about the contract." I bet there are also contingencies in case he becomes a head coach. 500 miles radius is pretty big. Looks like the only SEC schools outside the radius are the entire SEC East. Even Texas falls w/in the radius.

LSU saved $ hiring Coach O and has extra to pay off Les and pay assistants more.
