Multiple sources are reporting that LSU's defensive coordinator Dave Aranda has emerged as the front-runner for the UNLV head coaching job and that a deal could be done relatively soon.

Aranda is currently in his fourth season as LSU's defensive coordinator and signed a 4-year, 2.5 million dollar contract in 2017. His current deal makes him the highest-paid assistant coach in College Football.

The 43-year old coach from Redlands, Calif. came to LSU after serving as the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin from 2013–2015.

During last year's Fiesta Bowl press conference, he made it clear that becoming a head coach was a goal he wanted to achieve.

Stay tuned for developments.

Are you serious? You can’t blame him for not wanting to be an assistant coach his whole life! He’s been here for 4 yrs. We need to thank him for what he has done for our program.

Don't blame him going here. He knows that area when he was at Utah State and it's a good head coaching opportunity for him. Realistically we're lucky to of had him this long.

Hope he does very well. Its not a destination spot but he can get his feet wet as HC.

Hope he stays for the playoffs, IF he goes; I wish him well. He could have a couple decent years at the stepping stone of UNLV, turn them into a decent team for their level, and then be considered for much bigger and better things. Sorry, I like the guy. He dealt with a metric shite ton of injuries this year. DV away.

Nope. Upvote.

Too bad he didn’t tell the other schools to contact him after the playoffs and stayed focus on that... could hurt us in the end.

He can go frick himself if he takes the job and starts fricking around in Las Vegas. Chavismo did that shite with the Faggies and it still pisses me off. Right before the biggest game of his and his kids careers, and hes doing this shite. After the school gave him everything he wanted. What a complete a-hole if he leaves like this.

The most overrated assistant coach in CFB.

LSU has made him the highest paid DC for how many years? Coach O unselfishly made sure his assistance were paid nearly as much as he was. After all this, if Aranda bails on LSU on the verge of winning a NC, then I wish him the worse of luck as a head coach.

Maybe the man didn’t take ole miss and Arkansas job out of loyalty to LSU? I think this is a stand up man. He will finish the job he started here. After that, I wish him the best.

Is it official that Aranda was offered the Arkansas and Ole Miss jobs? I’m struggling to believe he’d turn down two SEC jobs but accept UNLV.
user avatar
This whole things smells to me. Unlv!!! What conference are they in?!?!? Why not wait for a P5 job? Timing...!#@!#@#! Wtf.
user avatar
And the policy of letting coordinators interview during season... did we not see what happened to bama last year!
user avatar
Wonder if this is why coach o has been visiting with all his top def recruits this past week!

No way he leaves without finishing season. If he leaves before then that will leave some bad feelings.

So, if he goes, what are yalls thoughts on Bo Pelini coming back? Or is there someone else LSU should pursue? Just asking. I’m a firm believer that you don’t leave until you’re gone.

All in for Bo Pelini. Aranda could never never sniff a dominant defense Pelini fielded before.
