LSU defensive tackle Dominick McKinley has been one of the Tigers' biggest risers during the latter part of fall camp.

Head coach Lane Kiffin spoke with the media on Thursday and praised McKinley's progress during practice, revealing that he challenged the former five-star prospect following a disappointing spring.

"Dom's had a really good camp. I really kinda challenged him in the spring. I'll tell you what I told him — didn't really have a good spring, in my opinion, of what he should for his size and his ability and really has stepped up, especially in the last probably week and a half."
Kiffin added that McKinley's improvement has resulted in an increased role with the first-team defense.

"And it's been great to see. He's run with our ones and done a really good job."
McKinley has made a significant jump since the start of fall camp. During an early media viewing period, he was working behind LSU's top two defensive tackle groups, but he has since worked his way into first-team reps.

The former five-star prospect has recorded 19 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four sacks over his first two seasons at LSU. With the Tigers preparing to open the season against Clemson on September 5, McKinley could be positioning himself for a significant role along LSU's defensive front.

That DT room is going to be a problem. Whoever emerges is going to earn it between Dom, Big Rich, Duece and Lamar
