LSU's Highly-Touted Freshman DL Trio Are Living Up To The Hype

LSU's highly touted group of freshman defensive linemen has wasted little time making an impression during fall camp.

Deuce Geralds, Richard Anderson and Lamar Brown have all worked their way into the mix along the defensive front, with Geralds and Anderson seeing first-team opportunities and Brown getting work with the second unit at defensive end. All three could have a chance to contribute immediately this season.

Head coach Lane Kiffin recently spoke with Ed Orgeron about the talented freshman group and said neither could remember having a collection of first-year defensive linemen quite like this one during their coaching careers.

“I talked to Ed about that,” Kiffin said. “I was kind of thinking all the places over the years we’ve been and even when we’ve been together or separate and neither of us has had that.”

Kiffin added that all three freshmen have a chance to see the field this season, which stands out even more in the transfer portal era when veteran players often fill immediate needs.

“All of them have a chance to play,” Kiffin said. “Those three specifically are playing a lot, and it’s really exciting.”

Veteran LSU center Braelin Moore has also been impressed after going against the freshmen in practice. Moore, who previously played at Virginia Tech, said the young Tigers are already more physically developed than some veteran players he has faced during his college career.

“Man, those guys are going to be crazy talented,” Moore said. “Their future is so bright.”

Geralds brings pass-rushing ability to the group, while the 6-foot-3, 339-pound Anderson provides LSU with a massive presence on the interior. Brown gives the Tigers even more versatility with the ability to line up on the edge or move inside.

With several weeks remaining before LSU opens the season against Clemson, the freshman trio will be worth watching as Kiffin and his staff continue sorting out the rotation along the defensive front.
