During his radio show on Wednesday night, head coach Les Miles said that freshman Michael Divinity or senior Tashawn Bower will star at outside linebacker in LSU's new 3-4 defense this season. Per NOLA.com:
Bower, a native of Somerville, N.J., transitioned to outside linebacker in Dave Aranda's new 3-4 defense after playing defensive end the last three seasons.
quote:Divinity, an early enrollee from Marrero, La. (John Ehret) was rated the No. 5 outside linebacker in the country coming out of high school last year.
"We think that our linebacking corps is going to be one of the fastest units on our team," Miles said. "Our two starters inside will be Kendell Beckwith and Duke Riley and they have great speed and size and are playing extremely well. The two outside guys, it kind of rotates, but Arden Key is one and Michael Divinity... or possibly Tashawn Bower would be the other. Again, that's great speed."
Key had previously said Divinity was getting some looks at the F-linebacker position but this was the first time Miles stated the freshman from John Ehret could have a chance at starting.
The spot became open when Corey Thompson, a converted safety, was injured with a broken leg.
