Fox Sports College Football Analyst Joel Klatt previewed the LSU vs. USC season opener on his show this week and said the matchup "might have more implications on the College Football season than any game in week 1." Per SDS:
quote:

“I believe it sets the tone for the entire narrative about number of participants in the College Football Playoff from the Big Ten or the SEC,” Klatt argued on his podcast this week. “These teams largely sit in that same pocket. Whether you rank them between fourth and fifth in their respective conferences, this is a direct comparison between the 2 conferences — the Big Ten and the SEC.

“Whoever wins this game starts to think of those Playoff implications and what they mean and their path to the College Football Playoff. If you lose this game, you are behind the 8-ball in a big way and you’ve got to win some games that, quite frankly, on paper it doesn’t look like you should win during the course of the regular season.”

I hope this is like the start of the 2019 season. Who are these Tigers...how did they just do that?

There will not be any Cinderella runs in the expanded football playoffs. All that has changed is that the top 2 or 3 teams will coast to the finals/semis while a bunch of also rans make noise for their fans and the networks until hitting the wall that always is the top 2 or 3. It’s just wasted noise outside of that.

Gonzaga ain’t coming out of nowhere to beat UGA in the title game.

That would be especially surprising, considering Gonzaga doesn’t even have a football team….

Not shocked that Klatt picked USC to win. He's a big Riley fan. But he greatly undervalues LSU size over USC.

I hate to be a negative nancy but until I see a defense with something, ANYTHING resembling a pulse, we are cooked. We're a 500 team if we field the same defense as last year. But i think coach Baker will have them in shape.
