LSU brought in 43 transfer portal additions for the 2026 season, giving Lane Kiffin one of the largest and most highly rated portal classes in college football.

Multiple recruiting services have widely regarded the class as the No. 1 transfer class in the country.

The new transfers will play a critical role in LSU's success this season, and no one is likely more important than quarterback Sam Leavitt, who transferred from Arizona State.

CBS Sports recently wrote about college football's 10 most fascinating transfers ahead of the 2026 season, and highlighted Leavitt:

Sam Leavitt | QB | LSU
Last season: Arizona State

There's no player more important to Lane Kiffin's first-year progress in Baton Rouge. Sam Leavitt determines how quickly this regime accelerates with CFP aspirations. The ex-Arizona State standout arrives with a Big 12 championship, playoff experience and the dual-threat ability Kiffin covets on money downs. He also carries questions after foot surgery ended his 2025 season and limited him during spring practice.

Kiffin says Leavitt is now near full strength, praising his arm talent, intelligence and "NFL mindset" as a preparer. Those are encouraging signs for a performer stepping into championship expectations. LSU needs Leavitt to extend plays while maximizing his supporting cast. If healthy, he gives Kiffin the trigger man capable of making Year 1 special.

We had great luck with JD from ASU, Sam should be a great fit for LK's offense. Just hope the foot does not get re-injured is my only worry.

Yes, Leavitt is the most important transfer, he's the starting QB. But just as important as Leavitt is his protector, LT Jordan Seaton. Leavitt wouldn't be able to proform at his best if Seaton failed. And the other head to this three headed monster is Edge Rusher Prince, it's extremely important that he apply pressure on the opponents QB. For us to make a legitimate run to the CFP all three will have to show up and dominate, and I believe all three will.
